La Vie en 2011

Happy New Year! I am back now as a second semester senior, and back to blog. As the 2011 year starts, I have begun interning at the Houston Magazine! I have been learning about more Houston hot spots and have turned into a 100% foodie. 

And for more exciting news, I am going fabric shopping tomorrow and will start my last semester at Glassell this Saturday (which is sad). 

Here are some of my favorite looks from Lookbook.nu. Frida J is the blonde and she is from Sweden. I hype every single one of her looks. They are all so different plus she dresses in my favorite colors (navy, pales, golds).

Marc Jacobs

As many of you know, I went to one of Marc Jacobs' studios in New York City where I saw some of his sample pieces for his runway shows being made, and talked to one of the people who work closely with Jacobs during the shows fixing the pieces the day of the show etc.(See The.City post for more details).

I was inspired to write a little mock entry for an English assignment about Marc Jacobs for this really cool website, Stuff Jewish Young Adults Like and I recently submitted my entry and actually got it on the page! Check it out, along with the other very funny entries! PS the shout out is great!!

Necessary

These pictures that are about to be posted and just some random pictures of different styles and designs that I am obsessed with.  Whether it is the color, the draping, or the design, the following pictures are a compilation of some great things that I have saved. Fashion Houston, Day 3

Guess who should have posted this ages ago? Anyways here was the lineup:

1. Chloe Dao

She's a personal favorite of mine--I wore one of her dresses to the show. Her new designs were so beautiful, the scene was set by a video that showed some of her designs and the first model that went down the runway had balloons, like the balloons that were in the video. Her selection of music was a poppy French song that went along with the bright blues and pinks that were used throughout her spring 2011 collection.

3. Irina Shabayeva

LOVE HER. Her collection was absolutely astonishing, there were so many pieces. Her theme was flowers, and that was portrayed through the different dresses that looked like flowers. Her craft with the draping of the fabrics was beautiful. The opening piece was a chic dress that I wanted to take home! Click here to watch Irina's show. She posted this video on her facebook page!

He had an array of clothing. He presented to different collections in one show, so you can imagine the number of pieces he had. One of his models kicked off her shoes in order to evade a horrible fall! Click here for pictures from the show from ABC channel 13.

Fashion Houston 2010. Day 2 October 12

I had met David Peck when I went to National Portfolio Day-he was representing Parsons of Paris. His collection was inspired by coffee beans and photographs. His pieces were very wearable and young, and the patterns were very cool, for lack of a better term. He was really nice when I met him. Most of his pieces had some sort of a pattern, but not all did. They are very structured pieces, that look very flattering on the models. He used mostly greens, blues, pinks, and grays.Pictures will be posted shortly. The pieces were complimented with Elaine Turner handbags, which completed the looks. To paraphrase what is said on Project Runway-Accessories can make a look. These handbags did not take away from the clothes, but added more flavor to them. I think the focus of this collection was more on the patterns, which is why each piece was quite simple, but not in a bad way!

Lauren Pierce debuted her collection that was tied together by the printed silks used. They were all dyed by women in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. She also matched her outfits with FEED bags. I particuarly enjoyed this collection because I am very involved in community service and I really liked the message of her collection. Although her line is called Lauren Pierce, designer Lauren Bush Pierce had support from President George H.W Bush and first lady Barbara Bush. I was waiting to go sit down, when I was stopped and told to wait. I was puzzled at first, but when I realized that 3 security agents were standing by me, I remembered that one of the designers was Lauren Bush Pierce- the president's granddaughter.

Lela Rose's collection was also another high of the night. From her dresses to gowns, designer Lela Rose created a collection that shows fun sophistication. From her textured dresses, to her simple yet perfectly fitted cocktail dresses, all the pieces in this spring 2011 collection were cohesive.


Net-A-Porter's first runway show was stunning. From Vionnet dresses to Dolce and Gabbana jackets, every piece that went down the runway was fashion forward. There were 25 looks that were modeled, each having something unique about the collection.

Fashion Houston 2010. Day 1 October 11th

All three designers' collections amazed me! Every single piece that walked down the runway was beautiful. Houston native Cesar Galindo's collection was so unique, and on top of it all, he is super popular in the Latin American world. There were reporters from Reforma and Epous. He also introduced "Ro", who was his roommate for the show "Fashion Show" that will debut on Bravo November 9th. I got to personally meet Ro. Pictures will be posted soon. I wanted every piece from Devon's collection for myself. Her pieces we so cohesive and I loved her colors (ivory, silvers, grays, greens, reds, and black). The pieces were characterized by collared shirts and bows. The patterns on the fabric we also were beautiful and I loved how they looked together. She took a different approach on "business" attire, and it was translated into preppy, yet professionally chic pieces. The last show of the Night was Christian Siriano. I am an avid Project Runway viewer, so to put it simply, I was overwhelmed at the fact that I was actually going to see his collection at a live show. When his show began I was so ecstatic to see the pieces up close. They were all beautiful, especially the finale piece-a tan sweetheart bodice with a giant tulle. Also he used my all time favorite shade of brown in a few pieces, and lined those pieces with red-sheer genius. His mixture of leather and silk and patterns created a wonderful collection. His use of ruffles was not overly used and it created cohesive wearable looks, that I wish I could have!

I had seen his full collection on Style.com, but I got to see an abbreviated version of that in real life. It was really a great opportunity, not only to see Christian Siriano's Spring 2011 line, but Lyn Devon's and Cesar Galindo's. To top the night of excitement off, I was sitting next to Christian's manager, and actually was able to meet Christian the next day at Neiman Marcus. Just being at the show, and then actually meeting Christian is one of my highlights in life. I really admire Christian's aesthetic and as a student designer, it is so encouraging to see such a young designer become so well known. More pictures of my favorites to be posted soon!
