NYLON MEXICO: Matilda's

While I have been here in Mexico City, I have been interning with my favorite magazine of all times besides Vogue, that is NYLON Mexico! It's been a great experience thus far and I have already learned a lot in a short span of time! As you all know fashion is something I know and love and have pursued this passion in every possible way available to me! I don't want to limit myself to just one thing in the fashion industry, therefore I have tried myriad jobs from retail and design to writing. I've only been interning for about two weeks and I have been lucky enough to have gotten a mini article published on NYLON Mexico's website!! Although it is not necessarily about fashion per say, writing about a cupcake boutique for NYLON Mexico is a great start!

I went to investigate the location of MATILDA'S and took hundreds of photos! My sister (@bphoto_graphie) is the photographer of the family, however I had to adapt and think like a photographer which was something I enjoyed a lot!! It was a change from the norm! I also tried something even newer: that is, writing in Spanish! Spanish is my first language, but I always post in English so it was cool to do it! I think I might even start translating some of my posts into Spanish para ustedes que leen mi blog y hablan EspaƱol!

Here's the article!

Mexico City Diaries

Hola amigos! I have been in Mexico for two weeks now, and as every day progresses, my love for the city grows. From the amazing food to spending time with my whole family, I am so content here! And although I have not written in a while, I thought it was about time I did, for I missed posting! Believe it or not, my English has become a bit rusty since I have only been speaking Spanish for the past two weeks...but do not fret because I will not let it impede my posting! I will be here for another three weeks and I am still searching for contacts from Nylon Mexico! They always have events around the city, but I have yet to find them...

As soon as I get back home, I get back to work and I think I will make a few skirts and dresses. The last dress I made for the Tickle Me Pink Fashion Show I gave to a friend who will be going to Australia in a matter of days so I do not have any of my new clothes, therefore I feel like I must make some more! I have already gotten requests to make that dress by a number of people before I leave for college, so I will be a busy bee! (If you would lilke a scarf, dress, or skirt, let me know!!). I actually will be making a few dresses while I am here in Mexico for my cousin!

Now let's talk about fashion! First of all I will be getting the Acqua di Gioia by Giorgio Armani perfumme upon my arrival in the States because my mom has it and I am obsessed and already tried to take it hostage, but she wanted it back! There are also a pair of Louis Vuitton flats that I must own. And of course a watch! My white digital watch is cool, but beyond dirty, so I want to upgrade to an analogue (Michael Kors preferably). The good thing is that I have a while before college and will be able to do all my shopping! AND I will be dorm shopping! My roomate and I decided on a rustic boho feel! I love vintage and anything boho (hence my style..) so as soon as I find my bedding I will post pictures. I also got a trenchcoat for the rainy days that I will have to walk to class! I haven't posted any new lookbook pictures, so I will do that sometime when I get back!

Tickle Me Pink Fashion Show 2011

This year for the Tickle Me Pink Fashion Show, I not only designed for my third year, but I also co-produced the show with Adair Reidy and Zoe Patterson. Zoe started the show four years ago to benefit Pink Ribbons Project, a Houston breast cancer organization which uses the arts to raise awareness.

Contrasting last year's collection, I only designed five pieces this year since I arrived from a month long trip a day before the show. Although I might have made one of my pieces the day of the show (insider secret), the show at Spring Street Studios was a success. Not only was the fashion haute, but the music from DJ Dan Rose also made the show quite the fashion event of the summer. I may have suggested a few tunes for the night (fashion + music = my life, duh!). We honored Sarah Stewart and Tysh Mefferd of Stella and Dot! My wonderful sister took all my pictures as always, and seeing them after the show made my month! They truly are AMAZING photos! Also a special thanks to all my models for helping me model, without you, I would not have been able to exhibit my clothes! Enjoy!

Coachella 2012 ALREADY?

Not long ago I was posting everyday counting down the days to Coachella and later finally my anticipated Coachella 2011 post, but now I guess I will never stop talking about it because the news is in: Coachella will be holding a double festival. That's right, two consecutive weekends that will be designed identically in order to accommodate a larger crowd. How insane is that? Even though I will be living in the music capital of live performances next year, attending Coachella 2012 would still be my dream come true! I am trying to attend Friday for ACL to see Coldplay and Kanye, who blew my mind away at Coachella this year, so hopefully I find a Friday ticket!

p.s: I got invited to a fashion event so be on the look out for pictures from that and also soon to come- a post dedicated to the 2011 Tickle Me Pink Fashion Show which was a great success! I co-produced the show and designed and I must admit that even though I already knew I wanted to be in the fashion industry, this show heightened my need to start working on fashion shows! My lovely sister took pictures of the show, and they turned out great!

Deuschland

I had an 8 hour layover in Germany, and lucky for me I was able to walk around Frankfurt for a couple of hours. Although Frankfurt was no Paris, it was indeed Europe. The cobble stoned streets surrounded by little  cafes and designer shops such as Jil Sander and Akris made me realize even more that I must live in Europe at some point in my life. Walking around, taking stalker photos of the impeccably dressed men, I kept saying to all my friends how most American boys lack style and need to learn from the men in beautiful suits that live in Europe. I had just gotten off a 10 hour plane flight and carried my carry-on luggage throughout the day, and let's just say I didn't look that great. I felt like the most unfashionable human being in the city (a feeling I despise) wearing skinny jeans, converse, and a scarf. Even elderly woman were rocking ballet flats and cargo skinny jeans, a trend I found common throughout my wandering of the streets. This was how I spent my few hours in Germany:

Back from across the world!

I am finally back from Europe and Israel and I immediately went to work upon arrival with Tickle Me Pink stuff! The show was yesterday and it was amazing! Pictures from the show will be posted shortly! Also during my one day in Frankfurt, Germany, I got some great pictures of the street fashions! Those will also be up shortly!
