Moda a la Rojo: NEW YORK FASHION WEEK. DAY 1

As I slowly got up from bed this morning to get ready for school, I was driven by the idea that in only a matter of hours I would be blogging about NYFW, a week that I have been counting down-in addition to writing "New York Fashion Week" in my agenda and my frequent glances at it everyday! Even though I have been sleep deprived this week, there is no way that I am not going to abandon my early sleeping hours for the next few days. I am not in New York attending the shows, but style.com is my best friend and helps me get by (all photos from style.com)! My goal in life is to attend NYFW and work shows...only time will tell!

We are only two months into the new decade and already I see nineties, seventies, and even fifties influences in the majority of today's shows. The first fall fashion week of the decade was kicked off by wonderful designers including Christian Siriano, Lynn Devon, Nicholas K, and Vena Cava among the few (and I've actually had the opportunity to see CS and LD Spring 2011 collections at Houston Fashion Week). It's amazing how history repeats itself, and how fashion designers take influences from past decades' history and incorporate a new 2011 touch to the collections. Notable influences from shows included:

Luca Luca: total 50's housewife feel (hair and bias cut skirts gave it away).
Christian Siriano: Mod (long maxi skirt with chiffon, but then also a balance with super feminine Oscar-worthy gowns, including florals that reminded me of Elie Saab's 2011 Spring CTR show).
Max Azria: Minimal with also long chiffon maxi skirts and white turtle neck layering.
Vena Cava: Nineties Spice Girls (revealing tops) meets Ke$ha (makeup).
Nicholas K: I spy a rich green velvet legging...They are not only gorgeous, but the perfect shade of green. Bravo to Christopher and Nicholas Kunz!

The Fall 2011 season collections started strong with common themes such as maxi skirts, layering with a cable net loose crew neck sweater, color blocking, pants, and lowered waist lines. Reoccurring colors included black, green, and gray (not shocking...)
