Fried cheese and fedoras: Coachella 2011

I am back from one of my most anticipated trips and while I was unpacking my clothes from my music festival getaway vacation, I had to wash and later repack it for my latest trip, that is to Germany, Poland, and Israel! (I will be gone for a month, so I will be taking a hiatus until May 25th, more details to come).

Coachella was filled with musical talent, interestingly clad people, and people who danced with a fever of ecstasy. It was amazing, to say the least. Props to all the people in charge of planning Coachella, you did a wonderful job! I ran from stage to stage like a chicken without a head, trying to hear everyone, despite the conflicts. It was hard, and I'm pretty sure I lost weight from walking so much, but that may have been due to the "Trail of Tears"--the dreaded walk from the music festival back to the shuttles. The weather was beautiful and it was always in the high 90s, but it did tend to cool down at night.

I was not disappointment by any of the performances that I saw, and all the artists and bands were fantastic. I was in indie music heaven, and techno heaven! Never in my life have I danced so much, or had so much fun. Sometimes I had to separate from my group to see bands that they didn't want to see, and I still had a blast! In general everyone was super friendly and at Coachella for the same reason as me--to hear some of the best live musical performances. However not only was I there to hear music, but to snap some candid shots of fashionable folks! There were people there from all over, and from the accents I picked up, I heard some Australians and Irish people among the few! It was really quite an experience, and not sleeping the night before to pack the perfect outfits was worth it (I literally slept 2 hrs the night before Coachella).

Enjoy the pictures! These were all taken by me, but later I will post some pictures of celebs that were at Coachella such as Whitney Port (of which I did not take pictures of)!

Most seen outfits:

COACHELLA COUNTDOWN: Two Days

The set times are up, and I am disappointed to say the least! Who can choose between the Black Keys, Brandon Flowers, Marina and the Diamonds, and Cut Copy? There are plenty of other schedule conflicts, and I want to cry (but nonetheless whatever I see will be EPIC). I don't know how I am going to do it, running across the desert from stage to stage. Hopefully I can pull off a few half and half shows. Check out these great artists and bands, which I hope to actually see!!

COACHELLA COUNTDOWN: Four days.

The most anticipated weekend of my life is quickly approaching, that is, COACHELLA IS IN FOUR DAYS.
Sleigh Bells

Cold War Kids

Gypsy and the Cat
I'm currently overloading on bands and djs, trying to listen to at least two songs of artists playing so I can prioritize them before the official schedule comes out.

I have one outfit ready, but I am unsure on what day to wear it (soon to be finalized..) I already went thrift store shopping and cut up some old mom jeans and made them into shorts, but now I must complete the looks, which will be a challenge.
I just finished making an outfit made out of cardboard for my Arts and Ideas class, and now I must make some things for the music festival! I will be making one of my signature scarves so that I can wear it all over California, plus I am making a light weight shirt for the festival!

Pictures will be up as soon as they are complete (production will be happening at late hours of the night..)

Until tomorrow for more COACHELLA COUNT DOWN updates!

Prom

Left: Aidan Mattox Peacock Dress     Right: Original Moda RoJo Design
This past weekend was what a lot of people would consider the highlight of their high school experience: prom. I had an Aidan Mattox dress that I had bought last year for a wedding, but I really did not want to wear it. Then I found a beautiful Jill Stuart gown at a guild shop, but it was hemmed too short. I've been rather busy, preparing for Coachella and a month long trip I will be taking in May, so I have been rushing to finish school projects and what not. (One of those including my school's literary and art magazine which a selection of my girl talk piece and a poem I wrote were included). And I decided to make my dress the week before prom...

After spending about two hours at the fabric store, searching for the perfect fabric, I finally found the perfect shaded olive green silk. With my luck, I figured the fabric was at least $50 a yard, so I asked the man who helped me how much it cost. Of course it happened to be an Oscar de la Renta fabric, but it had gotten water damage (which was not visible in the piece I used), so it was 50% off! Then the fun began..
1. I cut my finger while trying to cut the boning, so it was a deep cut
2. I fell asleep at the machine as I was sewing at late hours of the day
3. I worked on the hem the day of prom, before hair and makeup appointments

But in the end, I finished the dress in three short days, and I was quite content with the outcome! If I would have had more time I would have made it even more detailed, but time did not allow for this.

The top is all hand rouged, and my zipper is put in by hand, as always (thanks Ms. Foreman). Makeup courtesy of Chanel at Neiman's.
