The Clothing for Today's Sports: Olympic Apparel 2012

While it is true that I have been absent from Moda RoJo, it does not mean that the thousands of thoughts that run through my brain at  a mile per minute have stopped pertaining to fashion...which really just means I have kept my thoughts to myself. But in honor of those things the Olympics that start today, I thought I would show some of the designs that international athletes will sport today.

As I sit in my seat every morning from 8 am- 12pm falling asleep  listening to my chemistry teacher, I started to think... "When are the olympics, and what do all the uniforms look like?" and that's when my thoughts no longer became solely mine, but of the students that sit around me too. By the end of the small 20 minute break we have, I along with the people around me were googling different 2012 Olympic uniforms. And to be quite honest, it was sparked by a tweet I saw criticizing Ralph Lauren for the production of Team USA uniforms in China which got my mind going....(on a side note) Most people that say they like fashion only refer to the clothes, but what I have learned over my entire lifetime is that I pretty much like everything that correlates to fashion, which by in large is everything--politics, economics, history, and cover your eyes Fashionistas of the world, science*.

But back to the premise of this post, the olympic uniforms. Here are the ones I could find and liked. I found it fascinating that top designers who usually don't deal with sportswear were designing the uniforms--well really just Georgio Armani, Hermes, Ferragamo, and Prada. Not gonna like, Stella McCartney did not surprise me because I already knew she had a collaboration with Adidas. and of course neither did Ralph Lauren because that's a known #classic. Lucky for San Marino athletes, they will carry swag while wearing Ferragamo which from the sketches looks very chic and European. Might I add that the Koreans aren't looking too shabby either and on that note, my new Taiwanese friends told me that they dress in the style of Korean girls so that style has come to my attention in the recent weeks.

Oh and also I'm excited to see soccer and gymnastics. Perhaps a bit of Badminton too.

LA MUSIQUE D'ETE

I discovered that Spotify can be used while in Mexico, so my life is pretty much complete. And because it's summer that means I have time to listen to more music and discover even more to share. I recommend some classics with a mix of some new stuff. Listen up brothers. and sisters too. But mostly men share my taste in music because I'm cool. Just kidding. Confession: I might be a bit cracky these days because I have no where to run since my mother has forbid me to run the streets of Mexico. Talk about overprotective. But I will just run up and down the stairs of my grandmother's house in the mean time until I sweat--be right back.

(I might have some foodie posts soon since I have not obsessed over food on moda rojo in a long time, or really ever.

And now back to the music. Oh can I just say that the commercials for the presidential campaign in Mexico are insane and take up 500093043 minutes on the radio, so basically the radio sucks in Mexico right now. Which is why I need to update the pod. or the iPod as normal people would say.

check it.

Halfway Through

Well...
It is May 21st and how many times have I posted in the year 2012? Probably about twice. I don't exactly remember the last time I posted and I have lost my touch as a blogger...but there are reasons behind my absence. First of all, school has taken over my life which is why I did not update my blog. But then I also experimented even more with fashion journalism and took an internship with CollegeFashionista where I wrote a weekly column about men's fashion. Then I also became a writer for Terror Magazine and of course continued to write for Spark Magazine. And continuing my fashion endeavors, I became more involved with University Fashion Group at UT and ran for assistant events planner. So all in all, while I have not exactly been writing on Moda Rojo I have however done everything related to fashion. Not to mention that I was finally in a fashion design class at UT.

But now that my first year of university is over and I am currently in Mexico City where I have an internship with Nylon Mexico, I have all the time in the world to blog, and update you on my randomness as it relates to my three passions--fashion, music, and food. And as a present to your eyes, I finally updated my banner which I had been working on for a while. So I hope you like the newness and freshness of Moda Rojo, and now just wait for what's to come this summer.

STOP KONY

In case you didn't know, I have several passions--the first being fashion of course, the second music, the third food, and the rest well, they follow behind equally. As many of you know, I have participated in the Tickle Me Pink Fashion Show for three years and last year I co-produced the show alongside presenting a five piece collection, one day after arriving from a month long trip to Israel. The show profited a local breast cancer awareness group called The Pink Ribbons Project in Houston. In any case, I was able to mix my love for design with my love for helping people--it was a fulfilling philanthropic event, yet at the same time I emerged myself in a world of fashion by designing and co-producing the show.

Now the title of this post might seem like it does not correlate to my blog at all since it has to do with the movement sparked by The Invisible Children to raise awareness for the arrest of Joseph Kony. But all throughout high school I spent my fridays volunteering with refugee children from all over the world, and many of them were from Africa. While I seemed to have an even larger connection with the children from Spanish speaking countries (since Spanish is my first language), the children that came from Africa still held a special place in my heart, in particular because at one point in my life I wanted to hold a charity event to raise awareness for Darfur. Knowing that these children had left countries such as Sudan made me think about my failed attempts to raise awareness for a cause that is unknown by most of the world. Although my plans never came through and that charity event never happened, I haven't ceased to look for alternative ways to evoke change and help people. The Tickle Me Pink Fashion Show was one way to help, and spending time with the Refugee children was another. In all, I spent over 400 hours in three years trying to find ways to make at least a tiny difference (I received the Gold President's Award twice and the bronze award once). Now I am a student in a huge university where it is even harder to find your niche to volunteer and I have found myself volunteering less and less because I have gotten caught up in socializing and enjoying my time in college. And yet. I feel like there is something missing, despite being in the center of the live music capital of the United States and studying fashion design and being surrounded by some of the most incredible and intelligent people I have ever met. That something, is my passion for helping others, which is why I am posting this 30 minute video. It is long, but beyond worth watching and listening. Help #stopkony and raise awareness.

One Month Later

How is it that I seem to have more time on my hands to look at fashion shows, write for other publications, go out on weekends, and take naps--and yet I find myself ashamed and embarrassed for what it appears like abandoning Moda RoJo?

Dear friends, Moda RoJo isn't disappearing anytime soon, so get back to reading cause I will be intensifying intensely, messing with my writing style, design, and absent photography skills. I might have over estimated my ability to maintain extra-curriculars alongside school work but it will no longer get it in my way of where my fashion writing began. Friends, I'm going to take Moda RoJo back to its roots, where you will find a combination of my designs, Proenza Schouler, Arctic Monkeys, and crepes. Yes--that means I am finally designing at school, I have time to search the interwebs for some Tommy Ton shots, and I just haven't eaten a crepe in a long time.

With NYFW over, that means we're headed over to Europe to see where the creative minds of master minds like Karl Lagerfeld have landed--well really that means my eyes will be glued to style.com for another three weeks. In the mean time, I'm formulating an epic post about Jack McCullough and Lazaro Hernandez's latest collection, which was to-die-for, so that should be good granted I write it.

I'm working on a 20 x 20 color wheel made out pictures of food from old Martha Stewart "Living" magazines, and let me tell ya, it gets your appetite going. When that puppy is finished I'll be sure to snap a photo and place it on here so you will all see it. I also spent 6 hours today working on the shade and the tint of an actual color wheel--yes I am an accomplished artist.

For the past 24 hours I have been in this weird state where I cannot stop laughing and every ten minutes I get an ab workout with my good friend Tori. Either it's the odor of a dead animal outside my dorm that's getting to my cerebral cortex, or my lack of sleep that will clearly be affected by the time it has taken me to write this post.

And now I digress, leaving you with a couple of things:

1. My latest t-shirt that I made in apparel 1, as well as my fellow classmate's work.

2. The newest magazine which I write for (regarding fashion, le duh)--Terror Magazine that is; it's targeted for women (no pun intended guys) and the best part about this magazine is that it's a real publication, as in print. No my friends it is not a dying occupation. The blog is updated every day and when later this Spring the magazine launches, you will be the first to know.

4. Spark Magazine blog-->all week every week

5. CollegeFashionista, check out all my Fashionistos I photograph, they all like to wear glasses.

6. My favorite line from this past weekend: "If I can't even get a taxi here in Austin, how ever will I get one in New York?"

Oh and Bucks and Buster (my nickname from my sister--aka me) will be working on a special project at some point in the near near future, which basically means crazy things will happen.

The Beginning of What's Not the End

Hello all,

In case you have not signed the petition against SOPA and PIPA, please do so before continuing to read this post. Here's your chance. I'll even give you some time to think about it:

SIGN HERE

Now that that's done with, I will now inform you on my current schedule and life. As you may have noticed, last semester I was a bit absent from the blog. It was all that chemistry and calculus. However as I continue onto better classes that are for my major (textiles & apparel), I realize that yet again I will be swamped with homework and projects. I am currently in 15 hours (but technically it's 18), I am interning with CollegeFashionista (Check out my posts weekly, especially you boys!) But nonetheless I will try my hardest to keep Moda a la Rojo fresh and moving....so do not fret too much. Also remember to read Spark Magazine since I am a writer for the magazine. I will be sure to post links as soon as issues are released and if I am ever featured on the home page of CollegeFashionista.... well we'll see about that one.

Fall Fashion Week is quickly approaching and I can't promise you full coverage a la last year when I was a senior in high school and school was getting easier by the day, but I can promise you that I will be writing about at least a few shows and fixing up some dandy photos of collections for your eye's entertainment. I will be getting Photoshop, InDesign, AND Illustrator this week so some creative fixings will be coming your way.

I am also in an Apparel class so some photos of new designs I will be working on will be displayed here, and let's just say I might go beyond my boundaries and design some clothing for those martians we women like to call men! So boys, I might just be able to make you something now, but don't get your hopes up too high....

And finally I am also in a Visual Merchandising and Display class...it's basically all group work minus the final project so you might not see much of my stuff from that..but in any case, stay true to Moda Rojo and have faith, because I will make SOME time to write a bit, and post pictures. The good thing is that you can all FOLLOW ME ON TWITTER @MODAROJO where I update constantly via the cellular phone and TUMBLR  where I will post some cool photos and music so you can see where my ideas are straying to....

Enjoy browsing on the inter webs while you can! The full makeover for Moda RoJo is coming soon C:
